Letters, 1800-1802, to John Wheelock.

Six letters, 1800-1802, to John Wheelock concerning the manuscript of Wheelock's Philosophical history of the advancement of nations, with an inquiry into the causes of their rise and decline. Nancrede was trying to find a publisher and took it to London in 1801 to obtain the interest of the Earl of Dartmouth. The book was never published.

John Wheelock was born in Lebanon, Conn. in 1754. He attended Yale University for three years, then transferred to Dartmouth College and graduated in 1771 with the first class. He succeeded his father, Eleazar Wheelock, as president of the Dartmouth College in 1779. He died in 1817. From the description of Papers, 1772-1829. (Dartmouth College Library).
